Energy: How Do You Get What You Need?

Welcome back to the re-launch of our blog, where we gather once again to discuss attitude… what it is, how it works, why it matters.

I am currently in my local food co-op slash coffee shop (a.k.a. my writer’s studio), listening to the hum of friends catching up with one another, glancing at the traffic strut by out the window, smelling lunch blooming in the nearby kitchen (some kind of pumpkin soup I think), sensing the sunny day just a window-glass pane away. I am struck by how much is happening, all the time.
Which leads me to the topic of energy. Imagine a world with no energy. No movement. No production. No lights flickering or legs flailing or lemons turning yellow.

Imagining such a world helps us to see that without energy, life would be pretty dull. It would, in fact, stand entirely still.

We are all dependent upon energy, in its many shapes and colors, visible or not.

Many of us are experiencing an energy crisis. On a global scale, our resources are running dry; nations fight wars to preserve their ability to produce energy. On a minute scale, our bodies and minds struggle to mow the lawn while simultaneously watching for the important client call or message from school that the kids are sick and need to be retrieved. Oh, and don’t forget to take out the compost, so that the energy from last night’s dinner can be turned into a summer full of garden tomatoes…

We are told to be perfect mothers or fathers, spouses, workers, citizens… and we listen, because we care.

But where do we find the energy, especially when we are beaten down by bad news, or bullies?

And once we get it, what do we do to preserve our own energy?

How do we best divert it, to be efficient, and get only the most appropriate tasks done?

How, in fact, can we use our energy to thrive?

“Energy” will be a feature topic in the next issue of Attitude Digest, and this is where you fit in. How do you prioritize to preserve your energy, and what do you do when you feel depleted? What makes you want to sprint to the hills singing? We all need each other, so share your ideas, so that together we may grow. Post to our blog, or email me.
